Many may think that Life coaching will be a straightforward problem-options-strategy-action exercise. Some others may think it’s just seeking out professional advice on a problem. This is not exactly correct. Transactional or surface level services can be utilized, yes, but transformational coaching is not that form of service, it is a much deeper and meaningful undertaking than that.

My form of life coaching is the transformational coaching approach. This is a style that transcends traditional coaching methods by the manner in which it will primarily invite you to delve into your identity and the processes that drive your thoughts, emotions and actions. Essentially, who you are as an entire “being”. Embrace your true self first and the rest is sure to follow.

The transformational approach to coaching at its core is aimed at self-actualization. It holds hands with approaches such as holism, Ontology and Integrativity. This approach looks to assist you in coming to a reflective understanding over your current perception of reality, the choices made and the actions taken as a consequence of that current perception. This approach believes that ones “being” are the seeds to ones doing, and one’s doing stems from one’s being.

How we as human beings “show up” each day is deeply rooted in certain aspects of our “being”, such as our thinking, language, emotions, also our physical behavior and presence. In essence the transformational Journey is one of rising above self-condemnation and then growing into our true self-empowerment.

The International Coaching Federation defined it well in stating that:

“The transformational coaching journey is a circuitous path driven by the energy and emotions of the coach and the client. The outcome a transformational coach seeks for their clients is the growth of new neural pathways that can replace self-limiting habits with productive ones.  Self-awareness is both the catalyst of the journey and the foundation to which the client can return again and again for motivation and direction “ – ICF
